SIAE and Meta Will Meet at the Italian Ministry of Culture to Seek Reconciliation
Under Secretary of State Lucia Borgonzoni called a meeting for Apr. 6 to solve the interruption of negotiations between the collecting society and Zuckerberg’s company
SIAE and Meta will meet at the Italian Ministry of Culture on Apr. 6. The Under Secretary of State Lucia Borgonzoni called the meeting in order to restart the dialogue between the collecting society and the company owning Facebook and Instagram.
«It’s fundamental to restart the negotiations», said Borgonzoni. «Safeguarding the rights of our artists, of their works and of Italian creativity is a priority».
Talks between the parties got interrupted on Mar. 16, resulting in a removal of the SIAE-controlled catalog from Facebook and Instagram.
“Safeguarding the rights of songwriters and artists is an absolute priority for us. Therefore, today we will start the procedure to remove the songs of the SIAE catalog from our music library,” said a spokesperson of Meta. “We have license deals in more than 150 countries and will continue to work towards a deal with SIAE that be satisfying for all parties.”
Matteo Fedeli, CEO of SIAE, replied in our interview: “When it comes to complex platforms such as Facebook and Instagram and their many services (posts, stories, reels), if we’re not given any clue about the amount of advertising, video and music that they host, it means we’re negotiating blindly”.
Facebook is now blocking contents featuring music protected by SIAE. Instagram silences them, unless the users decide to select another track from the available catalog.
